Reiki is a gentle healing practice that brings peace to the body, mind, and spirit. It comes from Japan and means “universal life energy.” It works by helping your natural energy flow better, like clearing a river so the water can move freely again.
Reiki does not involve massage. You stay fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body. There is no pressure. Just stillness, warmth, and care. Reiki is not tied to any religion. It works with people of all beliefs and backgrounds.
What to Expect at Your First Session
When you walk in, you’ll be welcomed with respect and kindness. There is no judgment. You don’t need to know anything about Reiki beforehand. Just come as you are.
You’ll talk briefly with the practitioner about how you’re feeling. Then you’ll lie down on a comfortable table, or sit in a chair if that’s easier. The room will likely be quiet, with soft music or silence. You can close your eyes and relax.
The practitioner will move their hands slowly from your head to your feet. You might feel warmth, tingling, or deep calm. Some people fall asleep. Some cry. Some feel lighter after. Every experience is different, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel.
The session usually lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. Afterward, you may feel peaceful, tired, or even energized. It’s a good idea to drink water and give yourself time to rest or reflect.
Reiki is not a cure, but it is a powerful support. It helps your body and heart find balance again. It helps you breathe deeper, sleep better, and carry less tension in your spirit.
If you’re feeling anxious, lost, or just need to feel held in a safe space, Reiki can be a beautiful place to begin.
