Can I Be Catholic If I’ve Been Divorced or Left the Church?

Yes. The short answer is yes.
If you’ve been divorced, remarried, or stepped away from the Church—whatever your story is—you are still welcome. You are still Catholic. You are still loved.
The idea that someone gets cut off from the sacraments because of divorce or absence doesn’t reflect the love and mercy at the heart of Christ’s message. In our tradition, we don’t turn people away from the altar because of the past. We turn toward them—because that’s what Jesus did.
Maybe you left because you were hurt. Maybe you felt judged or unseen. Maybe life got heavy, and you couldn’t carry it all. That’s okay. You’re not the only one.
Coming back doesn’t mean pretending nothing happened. It means picking up the thread and letting grace weave it into something new.
You don’t need to start over. You just need to start from where you are.
And we’re here when you do.
